Mayapan has of temples, altars, shrines, and platforms located inside the city center walls.

Rediscovered in the mid-nineteenth century by Stephens and Catherwood, this site was a was a powerful urban center that eventually became the sole political and cultural force in the Yucatan during the thirteenth century.
